RAUCH/HOLZ is produced by Master of carpentry Thomas Rauch and his team.
In our manufactory we ennoble local timber with the process of carbonisation.
Yes, we burn wood.
All wood comes from the local forests of the Island of Usedom in the north of Germany. The results are unique, sustainable and ecologically valuable timbers wich withstand climate without additional chemical treatments. This century-old technique to make wood resistant was used by the ancestors of our baltic region, slavs and vikings, in their house and boot construction. The art of burning wood is also known as shou sugi ban or yakisugi in Japan and it is used until today for wooden facades.
We redefined and refined these antique techniques. RAUCH/HOLZ can be used in many ways, whether outside in a facade or as a special highlight in interior design. Inspire us with your ideas and we will produce something unique for you.
RAUCH/HOLZ is a natural product and is subject to natural fluctuations in size and structure.
The surface treatment reacts with its environment.
Its structure and color can change depending on the position, environmental conditions
or mechanical influences. Rauch/Holz ages with dignity.
